Jigsaw's Blog: My thoughts on games (and other stuff)

Prince is a Pirate

I’ve been thinking about the Super Bowl (in case you didn’t see my previous post) and how I’m probably not the target demographic for the commercials and half time show. The NFL is pretty smart. Football fans are going to watch the game no matter who the commercials and half time show are targeting. So they make the commercials and half time show for the non-football fans. I understand the strategy here and like I said, it is smart. Still, I would like to see the NFL reward its loyal fans by putting on a half time show we actually want to watch. The last time there was a band I like was in Super Bowl 37 when No Doubt played.

It is not that I dislike the other bands they have had over the last few years. They just are not ones would choose to listen to. For example, I don’t have anything against Prince. He’s not a musician I’m a big fan of, but his songs do bring back memories of my childhood. I mention this because even though I’m not a big fan of Prince I at least know who he is. The same cannot be said for about half ot the people who were at the Super Bowl party I attended. Their questions ranged from “Why does his guitar look like that” to my personal favorite “Why is he dressed like a pirate?” For as smart as the NFL is I think the blew it this year. Maybe the Super Bowl party I attended was an exception, but it can’t be a good sign when no one at the party is excited to see the half time show. Hopefully next year’s Super Bowl will bring a decent half time show.
