Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog Impressions

Last night I watched the Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog DVD. I is probably the funniest thing I watched in months. I was almost crying at some points because it is so funny. Plus, it is funny without the characters being overly jokey. My wife watched it with me and also enjoyed it but probably not as much as I did.

For those of you have never heard of it Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is a musical film. It is about 45 minutes long and was initially produced exclusively for online distribution. It is the story of Dr. Horrible, the aspiring supervillain alter ego of Billy; Captain Hammer, his nemesis; and Penny, their mutual love interest.

The DVD is about $10 or you can watch the whole thing on Hulu for free. I would recommend checking it out and watching it with some friends. It is an instant classic and I look forward to watching it again as I introduce my friends to it.

Blow Impressions

I’ve been playing Blow off and on for the last couple weeks. Blow is an XNA Community Game that will set you back just $5 (400 Points). It is a puzzle game but where as most puzzle games get frustrated when they start to get hard Blow is still really relaxing because of its slow pace and mellow music. The point of the game is is to use fans to gently move bubbles across each level to an exit without popping them. To help keep the frustration down there are no time limits or bubble limits so you can take your time and through trial and error work out a solution to complete the level. Plus for an XNA game I’m impressed with how much there is. Plus it is a great game to play for a level or two and then come back to later. There are two modes and over 70 levels. Plus you can go back retry levels to get more experience. I’m really happy I purchased Blow and if you’re into puzzle games I would recommend giving Blow a try.

You can find Blow on the Xbox.com Marketplace here.

Also, if you’re needing more Marketplace Points to buy it Amazon.com has them on sale.

Xbox 360 Hard Drive Upgrade

I caved and purchased a larger 60 GB Xbox 360 Hard Drive last week. My 20 GB drive that I’ve had since my first 360 the January after launch has been going strong, but it continually has about 15 GB or more of stuff stored on it so generally when I want to download a demo I have to first remove one of the older demos I already have. That was just something I had gotten use to but was never fond of. When the New Xbox Experience released I cleared off a little extra space and installed The Orange Box to the hard drive. The quietness of not having the DVD spinning plus the faster load times got me hooked. Yesterday I got my new drive and the transfer cable. I transferred all of my 20 GB drive to my new 60 GB drive and after waiting over an hour for the transfer to complete I immediately installed Gears of War 2 and Rock Band 2 to the hard drive. Neither of those games loads noticeably faster but they quietness of playing without the DVD drive spinning is nice. I never thought my 360 was very loud or anything, and even when I play other games I don’t notice the sound of the disc spinning. Yet, I do notice how quiet it is without the disc spinning…weird huh? If you have not tried installing a game to the hard drive yet I would recommend clearing a some of your older demos and videos off your hard drive and install your most played game. Not only will it most likely load a bit faster but the console will be quieter too. Just keep in mind that if you get hooked like I did you’re going to end up buying a new hard drive, but in my opinion it is money well spent.

GameFly Trade-In Impressions

A few months back GameFly.com added an option to trade in your old games through them and they money for them gets credited strait to your GameFly account. At the time I did not have any games I was looking to part with, but last week I came across a couple games I had loaned to a friend and forgotten about. Both were games I have no intention of playing again and are selling for less than $10 on Ebay. So, I decided to try out GameFly’s Trade-In Option.

The Trade-In process is actually really painless. You log in to your GameFly account and head to the Trade-In section. You then tell them what games you want to trade in. I did Stranglehold and Blacksite: Area 51. Once you specify all the games you want to sell them they give you a total for how much you will get for the games. I got $19.78. Then they give you a packing slip and address label to print. You then just pack up the games, slap the label on the box and head to the post office. Shipping was $1.20 for my two games.

A couple days after I shipped the games off I got an email from GameFly letting me know they received the games and my account was credited. Overall, it was a really easy and painless process and I came out with like $18.50 in my GameFly account. It was a lot easier than trying to sell them on Ebay and I got more money than what GameStop would have given me for them.

Wanted DVD Impressions

I finally got around to seeing Wanted recently. I knew the premise of the story from the trailer and thought it looked pretty good. However, I was really disappointed with the movie. I just did not like it that well. I took the time to write a longer review with my complaints here: Wanted Review

Lord of the Rings: Conquest Demo Impressions

I spent most of yesterday playing the Lord of the Rings: Conquest demo on Xbox Live. There are only 2 maps and one game mode in this multiplayer demo, but it is really fun. The characters were well balanced and I did not notice any lag even in 16 player rooms. I’ve got a longer review of my time yesterday here. The demo is well over 1 GB but it is worth the time to download and check out if you have not. If you are not familiar with the game here is the trailer to give you some more details:
