Jigsaw's Blog: My thoughts on games (and other stuff)

Oops…Halo 3 Beta via Crackdown

I’m sure by now everyone is aware that the Halo 3 Beta is not yet available for download from within Crackdown like it was suppose to be. I’m not really that surprised. Items that are reported to be up on the Xbox Live Marketplace on a certain date often don’t make it up there until later. This has been especially true of game demos. However, given the publicity around the Halo 3 Beta being released to the public today I’m surprised that they were not ready. From what I see on Major Nelson’s blog (which is down do to high traffic levels again) there is an issue they are working to sort out with the release of the Halo 3 Beta via Crackdown. I’m still holding out hope it will be up in time for me to start it downloading on my lunch break. Once it is up I can’t imagine how long it will take to download the 1.1 GB Beta with so many people trying to download it all at the same time. I remember the original Halo 2 maps taking hours to download the day they released. I figure this will be the same. If by chance they do get the issue sorted out and I get it downloaded I’ll post tomorrow with my first impressions. If they don’t get it fixed I’ll probably be checking out the new Xbox Live Arcade games.
